Duel Diets

we are both on diets,
hers for feline diabetes,
mine for obesity

we both must
change lifestyles
adhere to food plans

I weigh her food
give her four ounces
of cat food twice daily

I measure my portions
munch rabbit food
keep a food journal

we both have
snack attacks 
at midnight

her jade eyes
plead for more food
I tell her “No!”

I spoon ice cream
into my mouth
feel guilty at her look

Why can’t I say
“No!” 
to me
