curiosity seekers find the site after 
driving over many miles of road,
gravelled, rutted, little travelled
encroached by poplars, weeds

headframes now capped,
sealed with cement,
buildings demolished
only the crusher and mill remain

the tailings site
covered with sand
that engulfs all
like a creeping Sahara

machinery, pipes, 
equipment 
abandoned to rust in the 
sun and rain

buildings left open,
unsecured, left for 
looters, scavengers 
who search for scrap metal

land destroyed,
